SARA
Anxiety
Sara is the most amazing girl I know. We've been friends for nearly five years, but only two years ago, she told me about her anxiety problem. It all started when she was twelve. Once at school she had a panic attack before an oral presentation, because of her fear to speak in public, and since then she can never talk to a big amount of people.
The side effects of anxiety are fear and general worry, which made Sara not want to resort to any type of treatment. She insisted on taking care of her mental problem on her own, refusing any help, getting over-the-counter medications, and sometimes ignoring the problem. But finally, after three years of wear and tear on the part of Sara and those around her, she was convinced to visit a doctor, a psychologist, who is still with her today. This not only got Sara on the right medication but it helped her overcome her panic attacks too.
I was so happy to hear that Sara trusted me enough to tell me about such an important part of her life. When I asked her if I could share her story on my blog, she was more than happy to hear that others could learn from her experience. Of course, I was only able to share a small part of all the things she told me, but I hope you enjoyed it anyway.
