LIAM
Dissociative Identity Disorder
Hi everyone, today I'm here to tell my uncle Liam's story. When he was 3 years old, he was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder. My grandparents began to notice a strange change in his attitude, as he sometimes acted as if he didn't know something he'd already learned or didn't know someone who had already been introduced to him.
This problem is diagnosed when a person has two or more identities under their control. It affects memory and changes everyday actions such as routine or the way we act towards certain people. Contrary to what many people think, people diagnosed with this problem do not need to look "crazy" in fact they can act quite normally if they know about the situation they are in.
We call my uncle's other personality Jack, as that's what he called himself. Both Liam and Jack are quite friendly, despite being nothing alike and being easily distinguishable, they can sometimes be quite similar.
Nowadays my uncle lives a, let's say "normal" life with his wife and daughter, both used to his situation, being accompanied by a psychologist once a week.
